New cellar stairs

So, while we've been working to figure out what exactly we were going to do with the remodel, we decided that we could put our laundry room in the "back hall" (as we call the little room that has the stairs leading to the cellar). We had previously planned on replacing the cellar stairs, and had even bought all the supplies to do so, but just hadn't gotten around to it. So rather than continue to feel like we were just sitting around on our hands waiting for nothing to happen, we started to work again ourselves in this space. We replaced the stairs that were in desperate need of repair and they are 100 times better now (you know longer feel like you are risking your life going down the stairs). We took up the floor, too (which is why you can see through it), so that we could put in a better one. You may be wondering how exactly we are going to fit a laundry room in there--well, we are going to put a trap door on the stairs! The washer and dryer will sit on the floor to the left (when we replace it) and then a person can access them while standing on the trap door. Personally, I think we're ingenious! But I guess we'll really see just how ingenious when it's done and we know it will actually work....

PS. You may be wondering why the stairs are so dirty when they are brand new--it's because the only way to currently get to the stairs is by going through the dirt pit that was once our kitchen.

Thank you so much for sending us updates on all this work. I tis fascinating to see how it goes. I am curious aobut the trap door....will you go into the cellar by a trap door?
Congrats on the new van...looks gorgeous. You definatley need reliable transportation and you have it once again. Heavenly Father is still taking care of you!

Yes, you will have to lift the trap door to get to the cellar, which will be a little annoying--but at least we get a multi-use room! And I definitely can't argue that we're being watched out for--the Lord's still blessing us, just on His timetable!
