Gavin's first day of preschool--UPDATE!

My little boy is being forced to grow up (at least in this way) WAY too soon! On Tuesday, he had his first day of ALL day preschool. That's right--a three-year-old gone from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM! I have to admit that I wasn't surprised by the teachers' comments that he was exhausted for the last hour or so and would just lay down on the carpet trying to sleep. This is a picture of him afterward having a hard time keeping his eyes open, and his clothes covered in drips from the ice cream treat I rewarded him with for being a good boy all day. Part of his exhaustion came from him having the start of a runny nose/head cold, which kept him from going to school for the rest of the week.

The school is the special preschool offered at Utah State University for auditory/verbal therapy (translation: teaching deaf kids to talk). I'm certain that it will be good for him and that they will help him learn to speak clearly. They are very professional and do a fabulous job, but he is still so young! For the Summer program, they are just doing Tues, Weds, and Thurs through July. When Fall starts, it will be full-time, Monday thru Friday! They mentioned that they might consider a shorter day (only until 1:30 or so) for the younger ones, if they have trouble during the summer. I really hope that I see some real tangible results rather quickly because I'm not completely convinced that that much time away from home is good for him. We'll see!

It was really weird to have Emma home with out Gavin. It just didn't seem normal to have the almost six-year-old home while the barely three-year-old was at school. It will still be weird, for at least a couple of weeks when school starts in the fall, because Emma will be doing afternoon Kindergarten and Gavin will be gone all morning and possibly all afternoon. (Emma's school decided that their policy will be that they won't skip kids out of Kindergarten without a trial period of a couple weeks in Kindergarten first.) Wish us luck!

UPDATE! Gavin got back from his second class this afternoon and his teachers think it would be better for him to just do mornings since he's so sleepy in the afternoons--what a surprise! So starting tomorrow he will be coming home at lunch time!

Poor Baby G. He looks so tired. I hope the preschool is worth the long hours and that he'll soon be able to talk to me. That is if he decides he wants to!

Wow, that is a long time! It is too bad they couldnt do part time school every day, rather than full time 3 days a week.
